I loved this series as a child, loved the movies, and it was nice to revisit the first of the trilogy again.
It is a great read and worthy of all the praise it has ever received. J.R.R. Tolkien was a master and creating another world populated, by creatures, other than men, of his imagination, and many speaking other languages that he invented. Beyond the attention-keeping story, which is excellent, it is a series about courage against all odds, perseverance when it would seem pointless, loyalty and the bonds of friendship when and easier route could be more convenient, and the classic good versus evil theme. It should be on the reading list of all.
